Iain: I’ve moved almost exclusively to audiobooks. I’ve recently finished listening to Lovecraft Country by Matt Ruff which re-imagines a lot of HP Lovecraft’s horror stories but told through the eyes of black people in segregation era USA. Despite the horrible monsters and the even more horrible setting, it’s a surprisingly pleasant and heart-warming book.
Now, you must have novel solutions to excess packaging.
Heide: It is something I spend a lot of time doing, yes. One of the days I will talk to you about compost, because that’s where our household cardboard goes.
Iain: I can’t wait.
Heide: But food insulation is something that has popped up a few times during the lockdown. We all yearn for delicious treats. I had some amazing curry delivered, and it was insulated with wool. Gorgeous stuff! It looked like it had come off the sheep and been fluffed up into rolls. Obviously that had to be made into something nice. I rolled it tightly into
these bolster shapes and sewed them into some internal sausage shapes.
Iain: Is that what you were doing on our Zoom call the other day?
Heide: Yes, that bit’s by hand. Then I made covers for them. I love how they look!
