Heide: Babelicious is the latest in the Clovenhoof series. It’s been fascinating writing this one because Clovenhoof and his friends have been around a while now and they’re starting to get older.
Iain: Right, and Clovenhoof is getting worried about them growing old and, well… dying. So he needs to do something about it.
Heide: Exactly. We’ve loved exploring Nerys, one of the characters who absolutely refuses to accept the signs of age. She wants to grab hold of youth and live that wild, party lifestyle for as long as possible.
Iain: Spoiler alert: some of the characters get magically ‘youthed’ in this book. And Nerys’ adventures in debauchery were as much fun to write as we
hoped.
Heide: Clovenhoof himself is up to his usual manic antics, fishing while wearing a suit covered in magnets, and accidentally getting assigned a carer because the records now say he’s an old man!
Iain: It’s classic Clovenhoof chaos. Meanwhile, there’s the plotline about trying to regain
youthfulness—and there were plenty of surprises beyond just the magical youth stuff.
Heide: Writing this book was such a joy. As you all know, we absolutely love the Clovenhoof world. It’s a chance to have characters who do and say things you’d never dare in real life.
Iain: It’s a romp. A lot of
fun.
Heide: Babelicious will be out in July, available as an ebook, with paperback and audiobook versions to follow. The audiobooks might take a little longer because we’ve got several coming out this year.
Iain: Yes, including the second book in our Cozy Craft Mystery series, which is currently
in audiobook production.
Heide: Oh, and speaking of mysteries, the second book in the Lyme Regis Women’s Swimming Club series which we co-wrote with Rachel
McLean is coming out this month.
Iain: It’s a slice of summer seaside fun. Well worth a read.
Heide: And let’s not forget our upcoming Christmas books! We’re gearing up to get very excited about those. And thanks so much to everyone who’s already signed up to be part of our Christmas street team of elves. That’s been brilliant.
Iain: We’ll be back with more festive fun in August and September.
Heide: So many comedy books coming your way this year!
Iain: By the way, Heide, are you happy with this new look you’ve got going on?
Heide: I love being young again! It reminds me of looking in the mirror every day and pretending those
wrinkles don’t exist.
Iain: Well, it’s not going to last forever, is it?
