Heide: That’s actually something I made for the sixth book in our Cozy Craft mystery series. A visiting birdwatcher asks the crime-solving heroines to make him a
portable bird hide and they produce this, based on an old-fashioned calash women wore to protected their huge wigs.
Reporter: Looks very nice indeed.
Heide: And this week we’re off to the World Science Fiction Convention, otherwise known as WorldCon, which this year is being held in
Glasgow.
Iain: Ah, yes. We last went to WorldCon in 2019 when it was held in Dublin. It’s nearly a full week of panels, workshops and exhibitions. But although it’s a science fiction convention it’s not all about science or, indeed, fiction.
Heide: Crikey, no. There’s music and dancing and
crafting and fashion. It’s a wide range of fun things, some of which are only vaguely related to either genre fiction or writing.
Reporter: And are you going to be taking any unusual sewn items with you?
Heide: Funny you should mention that. I’m packing my sewing machine…
Reporter: Well, we’ve heard a lot of decent excuses for why you’re late with your newsletter, so now let’s get to the real news shall we? Are you working on any books stuffed full of knob jokes? Maybe featuring a handsome retiree from Hell?
Heide: Ooh knob jokes? Yes! We’re writing some new books that are very vulgar
