Hello, friend. It’s already February. How did that happen?
Iain: Right? I only just got
around to starting my New Year’s Resolution to go to the gym more often yesterday.
Heide: Can it be called a New Year’s resolution if you wait until February to start it?
Iain: Well, January was sooo busy. Much of our time was spent
finishing off Clovenhoof book 8, Alpacalypse, which is published on the 1st March. And then there was the Free LOLs @ The Bookshop nonsense we did, although that was very much your
idea.
Heide: I just wanted to do something nice and fun. As everyone knows, the third Monday in January is “Blue Monday” which —
Iain: — which was invented by travel companies to sell holidays.
Heide: Yes, but it acknowledges that January is a difficult time for many people, emotionally and financially, particularly after a busy and expensive Christmas. So I thought it would be nice if we could do something fun and free for people.
Iain: So, you asked
readers, writers and friends to send you funny books to you so you could wrap them up and give them away as free treats.
Heide: Sort of a comedy lucky dip version of World Book Night but we simply did it through a local independent book shop we know, the Heath Bookshop, in Kings Heath, Birmingham. They’ve been going for less than a year but they’ve engaged
wonderfully with the local community and put on lots of events.
